Christopher Jaffe, an acoustics expert who has worked internationally on more than 250 concert halls, opera houses, theaters, and music pavilions, has joined with Acentech, a multi-disciplinary acoustical consulting firm, to create a new consulting group called Studio A. Jaffe’s recent projects have included Zankel Hall, as well as renovations to the Hollywood Bowl (California), the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.), and Severance Hall (Cleveland). Acentech is a 60-year-old firm with more than 50 consultants; its offices are in Cambridge Massachusetts; Trevose, Pennsylvania; and Westlake Village, California. Acentech’s previous projects include Spivey Hall at Clayton State University in Georgia (acoustical design), Boston’s Symphony Hall (renovation), and Alice Tully Hall (subway-free-vibration environment). Studio A’s stated aim is to provide an integrated approach and multidisciplinary expertise to build beautifully and acoustically sound facilities for music, theater, an dance presentations, including provision of a quiet background unencumbered by noise or vibration from building systems or external sources.
