The Bangor (Me.) Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of BRIAN HINRICHS as executive director, effective June 1. Hinrichs is currently completing an MBA at the University of Wisconsin’s Bolz Center for Arts Administration in Madison, where his education has included graduate positions at the Madison Symphony Orchestra in marketing and at the Pro Arte Quartet in fundraising, marketing, and composer residency development. He earlier spent three years with Wisconsin’s Madison Opera, first as manager of communications and community outreach and subsequently as director of marketing. Prior to that he spent time researching Western classical music in Thailand as recipient of a Fulbright grant; one product of that research was “Letter from Bangkok,” an article about Thailand’s orchestras that appeared in the January/February 2009 issue of Symphony, the magazine of the League of American Orchestras. Early in his career Hinrichs held internships with Glimmerglass Opera, Chamber Music magazine, and the Chenango Summer MusicFest. A cellist, he holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University.
