Virginia’s Fairfax Symphony Orchestra has appointed DEBRA HARRISON president and CEO, effective January 1, 2013. She was most recently chief operating officer for the Washington Performing Arts Society, the leading concert presenting organization in Washington, D.C. A native of England with dual citizenship in the U.K. and Canada, she was first introduced to the classical performing arts at age sixteen, when she was hired to wash out paint buckets for the Vancouver (British Columbia) Opera. Harrison subsequently held leadership positions with Arizona Opera, OPERA America, and Vancouver Opera.
