The Hartford Symphony Orchestra in Connecticut has announced the appointment of GRANT MEACHUM as director of artistic operations and ELSJE KIBLER-VERMAAS as director of community engagement and education. Meachum goes to Hartford from the School of Music at Yale University, where he has served since 2006 as managing director of Yale Opera. He was previously the artistic administrator for Boston Lyric Opera, and has held administrative posts with the San Francisco, Indianapolis, and Glimmerglass opera companies as well as the national service organization OPERA America. Meachum holds a Bachelor of Science degree in arts administration from Butler University. Kibler-Vermaas worked most recently in the Netherlands as a consultant to the Concertgebouw’s Education Department. Before that she served as manager of school programs and interim manager of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, a program administered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Previous posts include education coordinator for Los Angeles’s J. Paul Getty Museum and assistant director at Young Artists International, also in L.A. A pianist, Kibler-Vermaas holds a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands.
