The Long Island Youth Orchestra, in residence at the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University (Brookville, N.Y.), has announced the appointment of SCOTT DUNN as music director and conductor. He succeeds MARTIN DREIWITZ, who founded the LIYO in 1962 and now holds the title music director emeritus. Dunn, the director of bands at Long Island’s Baldwin High School, has appeared as guest conductor and clinician for numerous high-school and middle-school bands. He has also commissioned new works for modern wind ensemble, and has performed as trombonist with the Cincinnati Opera, the Aspen Chamber Orchestra, and the Cincinnati, Richmond (Ind.), West Virginia, and Kentucky symphony orchestras. Dunn holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and a master’s in trombone and wind conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
