Leslie J. Garfield, chair of the New York Youth Symphony, has announced the appointment of SHAUNA QUILL as executive director, effective September 15, 2011. She will succeed BARRY GOLDBERG, who concludes his 28-year tenure with the NYYS on August 31. Since 2007 Quill has served as executive director of University of Chicago Presents. Prior experience includes posts as artistic administrator at Aspen Music Festival and School; managing director of International Sejong Soloists and of South Korea’s Green Mountain Music Festival; consultant to the La Jolla (Cal.) Music Festival, EuroArts Berlin, and the Orel Foundation; project manager for Lincoln Center’s 2007-08 season concerts with Midori; and publicity manager for the Herbert Breslin artist management firm. An alumna of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony and of the New York Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Program, Quill holds a bachelor’s degree in flute performance from Carnegie Mellon University. She also pursued flute studies in New York City, both in the Preparatory Division of Mannes College the New School for Music and at Columbia University.
