The Wellington-based New Zealand Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of CHRISTOPHER BLAKE as chief executive, effective February 7, 2012. For the past four years he has served as chief executive and secretary for labour in New Zealand’s Department of Labour. Previous government posts include chief executive, Department of Internal Affairs; chief executive and national librarian, National Library of New Zealand; and foundation chief executive, Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Prior to his public service he held several posts with performing arts organizations including general manager, National Opera of New Zealand; general manager, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra; and manager, Radio New Zealand Concert. A composer, Blake holds music and engineering degrees from the University of Canterbury and a postgraduate degree in composition from the University of Southampton.
