Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York City has announced the appointment of ALEXANDER SCHEIRLE as executive director, effective May 1. He will succeed KRISTINE SPENSIERI, who has served as interim executive director since the departure of KRISHNA THIAGARAJAN in June 2015. Scheirle is currently executive and artistic director of the Crested Butte (Colo.) Music Festival, a post he has held since 2004. A cellist trained in his native Germany, he was a founding member of the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, a chamber orchestra founded in 1990 and modeled on Orpheus in its self-governing structure; from 2000 to 2007 he served as the organization’s executive and artistic director. Scheirle holds a master’s degree from the Musikhochschule Cologne, a bachelor’s degree from the Musikhochschule Saarbrücken, and an Advanced Solo Study degree from the Guildhall School of Music in London. He has resided in New York since 2007.
