In Wednesday’s (2/12) Times Union (Albany, NY), Katherine Kiessling writes, “Albany Symphony unveiled its 2025-2026 season featuring teenaged prodigies, major works by Stravinsky and Holst, commissions for America250, and a slate of new works—including six world premieres—that feature audience favorites and emerging young composers alike…. Cellist Zlatomir Fung, who, at 25, became the youngest faculty member at the Julliard School of Music, will perform Dvořák’s famed cello concerto … Keila Wakao, a 19-year-old violinist who has performed with the Boston Symphony and major orchestras globally, will perform a new violin concerto by Bobby Ge … Isaac Thomas, a 13-year-old composing prodigy, will debut a new work … As has become the norm with the orchestra, new and emerging composers and soloists of today are paired with giants of the classical canon…. Other season highlights include: Christina Bouey, the new concertmaster for Albany Symphony, making her soloist debut performing Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 … premieres by Loren Loiacono and Francisco del Pino in February and March of 2026 … The season will conclude with the annual American Music Festival on June 6.” The festival also includes “the premieres of the first three of 25 commissions for America250, the nation’s 250th anniversary.”
