The Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra has named Amy Iwano as president and chief executive officer, effective July 1. She succeeds Dave Moss, who led the organization from 2020 to January 2024, when he became executive director of Oregon’s Eugene Symphony. Iwano has held positions in orchestral, chamber, jazz, and world music organizations; educational programming; community events; and leadership roles in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Santa Fe. Previously, Iwano was the artistic and executive director for Performance Santa Fe. She was the founder and lead planning partner for the Art + Sol Santa Fe Winter Arts Festival. Before that, she was the executive director for the University of Chicago Presents, and served as executive director for the Chicago Chamber Musicians, executive director for the Japan America Symphony Association of Los Angeles, and worked for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She is currently vice chair of the Board of Directors of New Music USA, a board member of the Amphion Foundation, and an advisory board member for the Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago. From Pomona College in California, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, and studied at the Université de Paris, La Sorbonne, in Paris.
