Eleven contenders have been announced for a fundraiser contest currently underway at Michigan’s Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, “Pursuit of the Podium: The Search for Ann Arbor’s Next Celebrity Conductor.” Videos of the candidates can be viewed at youtube.com/annarborsymphony or at the A2SO website ; they include Tim Marshall, president & CEO of Bank of Ann Arbor; David Canter, executive director of the University of Michigan North Campus Research Complex; Annie Rose, cantor at Temple Beth Emeth; and Robert Albritton, retired Pioneer High School Band Director. Members of the public may cast votes for $5 per vote, with voting for round one open through January 17; votes may be cast at the A2SO website, by emailing potp@a2so.com, calling 734-994-4801, or filling out a nomination form at an A2SO concert. The final vote deadline is March 11, with all proceeds of the fundraiser benefitting the orchestra’s education programs throughout southeastern Michigan. The contest winner will be announced in the spring, with the winner to conduct a short piece with the orchestra.
