JACOMO RAFAEL BAIROS’s contract as music director and conductor of the Amarillo (Tex.) Symphony has been extended through the 2018-19 season. Bairos has led the orchestra since July 2013. The Portuguese-American conductor—also co-founder of Nu Deco, a Miami-based chamber orchestra dedicated to contemporary music—has appeared with numerous orchestras in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Bairos is a graduate of Peabody Conservatory’s orchestral conducting program, and received further training under the late Kurt Masur in Leipzig and at Aspen Music Festival and School’s American Academy of Conducting.
