The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of STEFÁN RAGNAR HÖSKULDSSON as principal flute, effective May 30, 2016. He has served as principal flute in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 2008. Höskuldsson performs widely in the U.S. and Europe, has given masterclasses at conservatories in New York and London, maintains a private flute studio in New York, and teaches at the Pacific Music Festival (Sapporo, Japan). Höskuldsson pursued studies at Reykjavik School of Music in his native Iceland and received further training at the U.K.’s Royal Northern College of Music. He has appeared with the Chicago Symphony twice as guest principal, and will perform with the orchestra during its Asian tour in January 2016.
