The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of GENE CHANG as assistant conductor of the CSO and conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, effective in September 2015. Currently resident conductor at the University of California-Berkeley and music director of Opera at UC Berkeley, Chang is a recent graduate of the Juilliard School, where he studied with Alan Gilbert and James Ross. He was a finalist in the 2013 Sir Georg Solti Chicago Symphony Orchestra Conducting Competition. Following early training in clarinet and piano he studied conducting and musicology at UC Berkeley. Chang subsequently attended the University of Chicago Law School and practiced briefly as a litigation attorney in Los Angeles before resuming his musical studies at Juilliard.
