The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has appointed three principal musicians: CHRISTOPHER PELL as principal clarinet, CHRISTOPHER SALES as principal bassoon, and ROBERT SULLIVAN as principal trumpet.

Christopher Pell is the former principal clarinet of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and second clarinet of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. He has performed as principal clarinet with the Toronto Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (Mexico City), and Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Pell has appeared as soloist with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, U.S. Army Band, and the Long Island Sound Symphony. He has performed with the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, Twickenham Fest, Lyrica Baroque, Orlando Chamber Soloists, Luzerne Chamber Music Festival, NOLA 360, and the Lake George Music Festival. Pell taught at the Interlochen Arts Camp and the University of New Orleans. He graduated from the Juilliard School in 2013 and has twice been a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center.

Christopher Sales previously held principal bassoon positions with the Calgary Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony, Norrkӧping Symphony, and Jacksonville Symphony orchestras. He spent seven years with the Aspen Music Festival, and also attended the Bellingham, Sarasota, Lucerne, Interlochen, and Spoleto music festivals. He served a season as principal bassoon faculty for the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina. Sales has performed solo and chamber music recitals at institutions including the Juilliard School, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the Instrumental Society of Calgary, and the University of Calgary, among others.

Robert Sullivan returns to the Cincinnati Symphony after tenures at the New York Philharmonic, where he was associate principal trumpet for eleven seasons, and the Cleveland Orchestra, where he was assistant principal trumpet for five years. He has been on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College of Music, Cleveland Institute, Charleston Southern University, and the College of Charleston. While teaching at Northwestern University, Sullivan appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He earned a bachelor of music degree at the University of Michigan, and attended the National Music Camp at Interlochen and the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington, D.C., as well as an extra player in the National Symphony Orchestra. Recent solo performances have been with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, and South Carolina’s Hilton Head Symphony.

In addition, the Cincinnati Symphony appointed five musicians: STEFANIE MATSUO as associate concertmaster, PHILIP MARTEN as first assistant concertmaster, CHARLES MOREY as section second violin, CATERINA LONGHI as section viola, and CHRISTOPHER FISCHER as section viola.
