South Carolina’s Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of JOHN MORRIS RUSSELL as principal guest conductor for the 2011-12 season. For the past ten years Russell has served as music director of the Windsor (Ont.) Symphony Orchestra, and he was recently named conductor of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, where he begins his tenure in September. Russell’s previous posts include associate conductor, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra; associate conductor, Savannah Symphony Orchestra; and orchestral program director, Vanderbilt University. He has guest conducted widely, including engagements at the Toronto, Houston, Detroit, Indianapolis, Dallas, Oregon, Colorado, and New World symphonies; the Minnesota Orchestra; the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics; and New York City Ballet.
