The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association has announced the appointment of JUAN FELIPE MOLANO as conductor of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), the association’s seven-year-old education program serving 650 students aged six to eighteen in South L.A., East L.A., and the city’s Rampart District. Molano, an honors graduate of the Vienna Conservatory, has served as music director of the Yucatan Symphony in Mexico; founding director of the Colombian Youth Philharmonic; national symphonic director of Batuta, the Colombian national system of youth orchestras; and, most recently, artistic director of California’s El Sistema-inspired Youth Orchestra Salinas. Molano will make his debut performance with YOLA in the LA Phil’s December 6 “Toyota Symphonies for Youth” concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
