Millersville University in southeastern Pennsylvania has announced the appointment of Dr. VERA VOLCHANSKY as director of orchestra, effective this fall. She holds a master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music and a doctorate from the University of Kansas. In 2008 she traveled to St. Petersburg on a Fulbright Scholarship to explore little-known works by 20th-century Russian composers. The previous year she served as a conducting fellow at the American Academy of Conducting in Aspen. Also an active violinist, Volchanasky began studying that instrument with her father at the age of six in Volgograd, Russia.
