SARAH HICKS has extended her contract through 2016-17 as principal conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra’s “Live at Orchestra Hall” series, which embraces popular music, jazz, Broadway classics, movie scores, world music, and related offerings. In this capacity she will continue to oversee artistic planning for the series and conduct several “Live at Orchestra Hall” concerts each season. Hicks joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 2006 as assistant conductor. In 2009 she was named principal conductor of pops and presentations, succeeding Doc Severinsen. Born in Tokyo and raised in Honolulu, she received a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University as a composition major and continued her studies at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she earned an artist’s diploma in conducting. She continues her affiliation with Curtis as a staff conductor.
