Alabama’s Mobile Symphony Orchestra has announced a three-year extension of SCOTT SPECK’s contract as music director. The 2009-10 season will be his tenth as the orchestra’s artistic leader. Previous posts include conductor, San Francisco Ballet; music advisor and conductor, Honolulu Symphony; and associate conductor, Los Angeles Opera. A summa cum laude graduate of Yale University, Speck has been a regular radio commentator for National Public Radio, the BBC, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and is the author of three books in the best-selling “Dummies” series: one each on classical music, opera, and ballet.
