The Paducah (Ky.) Symphony Orchestra has announced a three-year extension, through 2016, of RAFFAELE PONTI’s contract as conductor and artistic director. Ponti has led the orchestra since 2010. He is also music director of the Genesee Symphony in upstate New York, and has guest conducted extensively in the U.S. and Europe. Born in the U.S. to Italian parents, he began his musical studies in violin, piano, and trumpet, and subsequently studied conducting with Giuseppe Sinopoli at the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. As a trumpeter he has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra.
