The Richmond (Va.) Symphony has extended STEVEN SMITH’s contract as music director through the 2015-16 season, and ERIN R. FREEMAN’s contract as associate conductor and director of the Richmond Symphony Chorus through 2014-15. Smith, holder of the Lewis T. Booker Music Director Chair, joined the Richmond Symphony in April 2010 following an extensive national search. He is also a composer, and his work “La Chasse” will be performed by the Richmond Symphony on January 26 and 27, 2013. Freeman, who holds the James Erb Choral Chair, was appointed to her post in 2007. In addition to conducting the Union First Market Bank Lollipops Series and the Elizabeth G. Schneider Discovery Concerts, she directs the orchestra’s all-volunteer Symphony Chorus and its Youth Orchestra Program. During her tenure she has overseen an expansion of the Symphony Chorus from 110 to 150 members and extended the range and variety of its programming.
