Swedish clarinetist MARTIN FRÖST, an artistic partner at the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra since March 2015, has withdrawn from all upcoming 2015-16 season engagements with the orchestra due to Ménière’s disease, an inner-ear disorder that causes severe vertigo, sickness, and tinnitus. Two guest artists will appear with the SPCO this winter in his stead: pianist DAVID FRAY in a February 26-28 program that includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24, Andrew Norman’s Light Screens, and Copland’s Appalachian Spring; and violinist GIL SHAHAM for the March 4-6 concerts featuring the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Haydn’s Symphony No. 83, and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite. The orchestra states that Fröst “remains committed to his artistic partnership with the SPCO and looks forward to returning next season in good health.”
