The Santa Rosa Symphony in California has appointed ADELLE-AKIKO KEARNS to the principal cello post, in which capacity she will make her debut at this season’s opening concerts, October 15-17. A native of San Francisco trained at San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School, Kearns has performed with numerous orchestras including the Tokyo Philharmonic, California’s Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra and Pacific Chamber Symphony, and the West Valley Symphony in Arizona. In addition to her new post in Santa Rosa, Kearns is assistant principal cellist in the Silicon Valley and Monterey symphony orchestras, both in California. She served previously as assistant principal cellist in the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. At the Santa Rosa Symphony Kearns will hold the Evert B. Person Memorial Chair, which was recently endowed with a gift in the amount of $444,453 from the Evert B. Person Charitable Unitrust. Evert Person, who died March 8, 2011, was publisher of The Press Democrat and chaired the SRS Board of Directors from 1966 to 1968.
