EMMANUEL VILLAUME has been named chief conductor of the Bratislava-based Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, effective with the 2009-10 season. He recently completed his ninth season as music director for opera and choruses at Spoleto Festival USA, and is also artistic director and chief conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra in Llubljana, a post to which he was appointed in October 2008. A native of Strasbourg, Villaume was educated at the Strasbourg Conservatory and subsequently in Paris, where he received degrees in literature, philosophy, and musicology.
