Spoleto Festival USA (Charleston, S.C.) has announced the appointment of violinist GEOFF NUTTALL as the Charles E. and Andrea L. Volpe Artistic Director for Chamber Music, effective with the 2010 festival when he will succeed longtime Artistic Director CHARLES WADSWORTH. Nuttall first performed at Spoleto Festival USA in 1995 with the St. Lawrence String Quartet, which he co-founded two decades ago, and has served as associate artistic director of Spoleto’s chamber music series since 2008. He has performed more than 1,800 concerts with the St. Lawrence String Quartet in North and South America, Europe, Australia and Asia, and is currently on the faculty at Stanford University in California.
