Third Street Music School Settlement, a community music school in New York City’s Greenwich Village, has announced the appointment of BRANDON KEITH BROWN as music director of the school and conductor of its Philharmonia Orchestra. As winner of the 2014 Mendelssohn Scholarship, Brown studied with Kurt Masur in Germany and conducted the Leipziger Symphonieorchester. Brown’s recent conducting activity has included debut appearances with the Rundfunk Symphonieorchester-Berlin, Neue Philharmonic-Westfalen, Badisches Staatskapelle, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Third Prize Winner of the 2012 Sir Georg Solti Competition for Conductors, Brown has served as cover conductor at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, assistant conductor at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and assistant conductor/fellow at the Waterloo-Cedar Falls (Iowa) Symphony Orchestra. He holds a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Peabody and received further training at Aspen Music Festival and School’s American Academy of Conducting.
