In Sunday’s (12/7) Tehachapi News (California), Nick Smirnoff writes, “Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra’s Winter Holiday Concert was presented Friday night to a full house of music fans. The symphony performance under the baton of Conductor David Newby included the combined choirs of the Tehachapi Symphonic Chorus with Sandy Adams as its director and the Antelope Valley Master Chorale with David Newby as its director. This year also included the voices of the Tehachapi High School Choir and Jacobsen Middle School Advanced Choir students…. The Jacobsen Middle School Advanced Choir [was] led by the school’s music director, Eric Dyer…. Tehachapi High School Choir … featured two student soloists, Zachary Carlsen and Cali Newhouse. The high school music director is Molly Bolewski, who is also an accomplished soprano soloist and member of the Tehachapi Symphonic Chorus. The evening’s works also included a selection of Gustav Holst’s works from his ‘Christmas Day, Choral Fantasy on Old Carols.’… The traditional performance of ‘The Messiah’ by George Friderich Handel followed. Handel’s ‘Messiah’ included the voices of all four choirs along with the Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra…. This year’s performance was again a near standing-room-only event. Held at the Country Oaks Baptist Church, extra chairs were brought in as nearly 750 holiday music fans attended.”
