Friday (9/14) on the WSB Radio website (Atlanta), Chris Chandler writes, “There will be an opening night for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra—sort of. The musicians of the Symphony have announced plans to stage their own benefit concert to help raise money for themselves while they are locked out in a labor dispute with management of the Woodruff Arts Center. The concert will be held next Thursday and Friday nights at the North Atlanta High School concert hall. The program will probably include Beethoven’s third symphony. The musicians have stopped getting paychecks and the Woodruff Arts Center has locked them out of their facilities. The first concert of the season was supposed to be in less than a month. The two sides are fighting over $1.2 million in payments to musicians in a battle over a new two-year contract between the ASO and its players.”
