The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta have each received a bequest estimated at $1.5 million from longtime Atlanta arts patron Barbara D. Stewart. Stewart, who died in December, was an ASO patron and donor for 20 years. Stewart requested that the funds to both organizations be unrestricted. In addition to the bequests to the ASO and the High Museum, Stewart left a $9 million bequest to the Atlanta Opera, where she had served as treasurer, vice president, and president of the board. Stewart, a native of Pittsburgh and a longtime Atlanta resident, founded the insurance consulting firm Stewart Economics, Inc. in 1981; she was director of Main Street America Holdings and a former overseer of the School of Risk Management of St. John’s University in New York.
