“They’re young, talented, not afraid to tackle the complex orchestral music of Tchaikovsky, and they’re coming to Nelson for the School of Music Winter Festival,” reports Wednesday’s (07/10) News section of New Zealand’s Nelson Mail, referring to the Auckland Youth Orchestra, a full-time youth orchestra under the leadership of Music Director Antun Poljanich. “The orchestra bridges the gap between school orchestras and adult professional groups and regularly takes to the road. When ‘Tchaikovsky on Tour’ comes to Nelson July 21 it will already have played in…other venues…Going on the tour is part of the experience for the young musicians, and they have been to Australia, New Caledonia and North America, and in 2011 travelled to Europe as the first ensemble from New Zealand invited to perform at the renowned Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin. ‘Tchaikovsky on Tour’ features the Russian composer’s fourth symphony…other works…include Rismky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol…Monti’s Czardas and Saint-Saëns’ Havanaise.”
