In Monday’s (6/10) WBAL TV (Baltimore), Tori Yorgey reports, “The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine held a tribute concert to the Key Bridge tragedy, the recovery and rebuilding. Friday’s 7 p.m. concert at the East Lawn of Fort McHenry was the grand finale of the BSO’s 2023-24 ‘Symphony in the City’ concert series. It’s dedicated to everyone impacted by the collapse of the Key Bridge in March, serving as a tribute to the lives lost, the first responders and the resilience of the Baltimore community. The free concert was open to anyone, but the BSO encouraged attendees … to pay it forward to the Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong Key Bridge Fund at the Baltimore Community Foundation. Funds go to recovery efforts, the families, port workers, first responders and small businesses impacted by the collapse. At the event alone, the BSO says the fund raised over $12,000.” Baltimore Symphony Music Director Jonathon Heyward said, “Music holds a profound power to heal and to bring us together, especially in our most challenging moments. As we gather at Fort McHenry … we’re uniting in a communal experience that celebrates resilience and recovery and underscores our belief in music’s ability to comfort, connect and inspire.”
