This June, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is adding an administrator track to BSO Academy Week, its weeklong program for adult instrumental musicians. The program is designed for orchestra administrators interested in started community engagement programs similar to the BSO Academy for amateur musicians. The BSO Academy of programs for adult musicians was launched four years ago with Rusty Musicians, in which adult musicians rehearse and perform side by side with Baltimore Symphony musicians and Music Director Marin Alsop; the Academy also includes instrument clinics, chamber music weekends, and the BSO Academy Week in June. Participants in the new administrator track—from June 15 to 22 at several Baltimore locations—will observe all classes and rehearsals with Marin Alsop and will attend daily seminars about topics including budget development, staffing issues, funding strategies, and integrating the amateur and professional musician mindset. Participants also may choose to take private lessons or play in the BSO Academy Side by Side Orchestra, contingent on space availability. Applications for the administrator track program can be found at the Baltimore Symphony website.
