As part of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s “Hallelujah! A Community Sing-A-Long” concert on December 9, the orchestra is inviting members of the community to audition to perform as soloists. The program merges Handel’s Messiah with Too Hot to Handel: The Gospel Messiah, a revamped, jazzy version of the work. The BSO will hold auditions for solo singers by appointment on October 14; aspiring soloists must attend two coaching sessions at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and be available for community chorus rehearsals that will take place prior to the concert. Vocalists who wish to participate in the community chorus but do not want to be soloists must register for the chorus but need not audition. The concert is part of the orchestra’s ongoing community-engagement efforts, and will be led by Music Director Marin Alsop. More information on auditioning is available at BSOmusic.org/TooHot.
