In Wednesday’s (8/26) Seattle Times, Katherine Long reports that at the Bellevue Philharmonic, “two important issues were settled this week: Michael Miropolsky, a former principal violinist with the Moscow State Symphony, has been chosen as the orchestra’s music director, replacing conductor Fusao Kajima. And the orchestra has also reached an agreement on a three-year contract with its musicians. … Miropolsky has a long resume: He came to the United States in 1990, and has been assistant principal second violin with the Seattle Symphony, as well as a featured soloist. He coaches young musicians and orchestras, leads master classes and performs as a guest conductor around the state. Under the three-year contract with the Musicians’ Association of Seattle, the musicians have agreed to play at a reduced rate for the 2009-10 fiscal year. The rates will be renegotiated the following year.”
