In Monday’s (11/4) Gazette (Janesville, Wisconsin), Clint Wolf writes, “The Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra is taking a look back at some milestones in music and in its own history as it prepares for its upcoming concert at Blackhawk Technical College. ‘Back to Our Roots with Beethoven and Brahms,’ is the title of the concert to be presented by the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Blackhawk Tech … This year also marks the 25th year that Rob Tomaro has served as the symphony orchestra’s conductor and music director. ‘Time has just flown by …’ Tomaro recalls. ‘It has been so rewarding.’ He also feels a sense of pride and amazement that he is only the third conductor to lead the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra in its 71-year history…. The orchestra was founded in 1953 as a volunteer, community orchestra….. ‘We’ve been blessed with tremendously loyal musicians,’ he said…. At the concert at Blackhawk Technical College, Tomaro will talk to the audience about the connections between Brahms and Beethoven, even though they were separated by about 70 years…. Also, the orchestra’s principal oboist Malia Huntsman will give her debut solo performance of Vaughn Williams’s Concerto for Oboe and String Orchestra.”
