In Sunday’s (9/22) WCVB, Mary Saladna reports, “Boston Mayor Michelle Wu showcased her musical talents on Saturday, stepping into the spotlight as the guest soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Wu impressed a packed Symphony Hall during the BSO’s free community concert. ‘Growing up playing piano and all those hours of scales and practicing, I never dreamed that one day I would have the opportunity to be alongside the best musicians in the world,’ Wu said. Wu, who hadn’t taken piano lessons in over 20 years, turned to the staff at Berklee College of Music for a quick refresher course before her performance…. The concert featured a diverse program celebrating Boston’s multicultural communities. ‘We recognize that the BSO and the Boston Pops are part of an arts ecosystem… making Symphony Hall a living room for the city is deeply important to us,’ BSO President and CEO Chad Smith said. Saturday’s concert marked the fifth ‘Concert for the City’ since the series began in 2020. Concert tickets were provided to various BSO community partners and Boston Public Schools students, continuing the orchestra’s mission to make world-class music accessible to all.”
