“Amateur musicians from across Massachusetts are joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra onstage this week,” reads an unsigned Sunday (10/25) Associated Press article. “For a second year, the BSO is bringing accomplished adult amateurs aboard. Its ‘Onstage at Symphony’ program starts Monday with rehearsals and runs through next weekend. BSO youth and family concerts conductor Thomas Wilkins will lead the musicians representing 61 Massachusetts communities. The renowned orchestra says it selected participants on a lottery basis from a pool of applicants. This year’s program culminates on Oct. 31 with an afternoon performance of the Coronation March from Meyerbeer’s ‘Le Prophete’; the Waltz from Tchaikovsky’s ‘Eugene Onegin’; Puccini’s ‘Preludio Sinfonico’; and the Polovtzian Dances from Borodin’s ‘Prince Igor.’ ” A press release from the BSO notes that participants will attend three rehearsals—Monday and Tuesday evenings, October 25 and 26, and Saturday morning, October 31—and includes names of this year’s participating amateur musicians.
