In last Thursday’s (3/5) Boston Globe, Malcolm Gay writes, “Vivo Performing Arts, the presenting group formerly known as Celebrity Series of Boston, announced Thursday that it has selected Thor Steingraber as its next president and chief executive. Steingraber, who currently leads the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles, succeeds longtime arts leader Gary Dunning. He will begin his new role in June. Steingraber, who worked as an opera director before becoming an arts administrator, will become only the fifth leader in the rebranded presenting organization’s 88-year history…. Steingraber is credited with expanding the Soraya’s national reputation and programming, presenting some 120 original programs that featured orchestras, Broadway concert productions, dance companies, and other international and local multidisciplinary artists. Steingraber, who graduated from Harvard University’s Kennedy School and served as the university’s inaugural arts and culture fellow, called Vivo ‘a respected leader in Boston’s cultural life. I was drawn to the appetite for growth and innovation in this pivotal moment.’ ” Among the artists and groups at Vivo this season are the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Gabriel Kahane, Davóne Tines, and Dianne Reeves.
