The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra announced that as of April 10 it had sold 1,326 tickets to its upcoming concert in this year’s Spring for Music festival at Carnegie Hall. That number reportedly surpasses the Spring for Music ticket-sales record set by Ohio’s Toledo Symphony Orchestra for its appearance at the 2011 festival. The Buffalo Philharmonic reports that a ticket-donation campaign launched last week and spearheaded by M&T Bank—the orchestra’s lead corporate sponsor—contributed to a recent surge in ticket sales. In that campaign, the public was encouraged to purchase a $28.50 concert ticket that would trigger a matching ticket purchase by M&T Bank, to be donated to an underserved student from New York City. For that same $28.50 ticket purchase, the BPO also matched with an additional ticket donation for a hometown concert at Kleinhans Music Hall, the Buffalo Philharmonic’s home venue. For its May 8 program at Spring for Music, Music Director JoAnn Falletta will lead the Buffalo Philharmonic in Giya Kancheli’s “Morning Prayer” from Life Without Christmas and Reinhold Glière’s Symphony No. 3 (“Ilya Muromets”). Also scheduled to perform at Spring for Music this year are the Albany, Baltimore, Detroit, and National symphonies. More information on Spring for Music 2013 is available here.
