Moon Doh has been named music director of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania. He goes to the Butler County Symphony from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, where he has served as associate conductor since 2021. Prior to Pittsburgh, Doh was artistic director and conductor of the Flora Symphony Orchestra in Cologne, Germany, where he launched the ensemble’s first live-stream concert series, led three full subscription seasons, and partnered with local music educators. As a guest conductor, Doh has led ensembles across Europe and the United States, including the WDR Funkhausorchester and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He holds advanced conducting degrees from the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf and a bachelor’s degree in music composition from Sahmyook University in Korea. He led the Hessen All-State Youth Orchestra, directed the Tonhalle Düsseldorf’s Under-16 Orchestra in Germany, and coached the Youth Orchestra of Essen. Born in South Korea and raised in the Philippines, Russia, and the U.S., Doh began cello and piano studies at age nine. While studying at Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a B.A. in International Relations and Economics, he worked with asylum seekers in Hungary, underprivileged children in Bangladesh, and incarcerated individuals in Baltimore.
