For the 2014 Cabrillo Composers Workshop this July, the deadline is March 1 for composers age 30 years or younger to submit scores for consideration. Three composers selected for the workshop will have their works rehearsed and performed at the festival, which takes place from July 26 to 30 in Santa Cruz, California. The Cabrillo Festival Orchestra will perform the newly composed works at the festival’s “In the Works” concert, which will also be recorded. Faculty for the workshop will be Marin Alsop, the festival’s music director, conductor James Ross, and composer Jennifer Higdon. The Cabrillo Composers Workshop, currently in its fourteenth season, is a five-day program that involves three composers, seven participating conductors, and up to fifteen auditing conductors.
