March deadlines have been set for composers to submit scores for consideration by the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Zemlinsky Prize. The deadline is March 1 for composers up to age 30 to submit orchestral scores for consideration for the 2013 Cabrillo Composers Workshop in Santa Cruz, California from July 27 to 31. Three composers will be selected to participate in the workshop, which will be led by Cabrillo Music Director Marin Alsop and conductor Gustav Meier; composer Kevin Puts will also serve as faculty for a composer workshop. The deadline is March 15 for composers under age 40 to submit scores for the third Alexander Zemlinsky Prize for Composition at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. The winner will receive $30,000, a world premiere by the CCM’s Philharmonia Orchestra in 2014-15, and a commercially produced recording by the CCM Philharmonia. The second-prize winner will receive $20,000 and a 2014-15 world premiere by the CCM Concert Orchestra; third-prize winner will receive $10,000.
