“Beethoven’s first published piece will take center stage this weekend when Cape Ann Symphony introduces the 2020 installment of its popular ‘Musicians Unleashed’ series” of chamber concerts, writes Gail McCarthy in Wednesday’s (1/15) Gloucester Daily Times (Cape Ann, MA). The series was introduced last year and features “small symphony ensembles in alternative settings. [Concertmaster] David Rubin … one of this weekend’s performers, said, … ‘in this series, small groups of musicians can showcase a different kind of repertoire with a rich history.’… Joining Rubin onstage Sunday will be cellist Johnny Mok, pianist Tianhong Yang, and French horn players Earl Powers and Ryan Fossier. Cape Ann Symphony’s principal violinist, Susanne Powers, will narrate the program. The performance of Beethoven’s first published work, Piano Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 1, No. 1 [will feature] Rubin … Mok and Yang…. ‘Hidden Treasures’ will also feature music by Germany’s Georg Philipp Telemann … and Argentina’s Astor Piazzolla…. Fran White, Cape Ann Symphony’s president, said that the organization is pleased with the response to the series… ‘We found that audiences just loved the variety of interesting venues and the opportunity to see the musicians play in small groups.’ ”
