In Thursday’s (9/5) Cape Cod Times (Massachusetts), Gwenn Friss writes, “The Cape Symphony has chosen five music director finalists, who will each show their skills at a masterpiece concert … In addition to seeing the concert, ticket holders are invited to attend a question-and-answer period with the finalist and then to submit their thoughts on the candidate’s strengths and weaknesses via a Cape Symphony survey…. ‘Our hope is that people who want to be a part of this will see all five concerts and comment on which conductor they think has more rapport with the musicians and speaks to the public …’ said Jae Cosmos Lee, Cape Symphony’s managing artistic principal and concertmaster…. [Current Music Director] Jung Ho Pak announced in May 2023 that he was leaving after 17 years…. Using search guidelines from the League of American Orchestras, Cape Symphony is reaching out for community input by holding an open rehearsal with each candidate on the Thursday before performances and a pre-show talk for ticket holders before shows.” The five candidates are Jean-Claude Picard, Alyssa Wang, Darko Butorac, Dina Gilbert, and James Blachly.
