Carnegie Hall has released a Carnegie Hall 120th Anniversary Mobile Application designed to evoke New York City in the 1890s, the era in which the hall was born. The app, developed for iPhone and Android, features audio and video content related to upcoming programs, including five concerts this season devoted to Tchaikovsky, who came to New York for Carnegie Hall’s opening in 1891. Among the features are a “Tchaikovsky in New York” Walking Tour based on Tchaikovsky’s only trip to the U.S. in 1891; audio and video of Valery Gergiev leading the Mariinsky Orchestra in Tchaikovsky symphonies; and video interviews with Gergiev discussing Tchaikovsky and his hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia. Additional content will be added throughout the 2011-12 season.
