The Chicago Sinfonietta has announced the launch of a free panel discussion series, “The Art of Business: Making a Living from Your Music,” to be offered monthly on Thursdays at 6 p.m. The first panel, “Survive…or Thrive?,” will take place at the Rudy Lozano Branch of the Chicago Public Library on Thursday, February 7, with a panel featuring Jim Hirsch, executive director of the Chicago Sinfonietta; Juan Díes, co-founder of the Sones de México Ensemble, based in Chicago; and Jose Ozuna, an educator who is also director of the Chicago-based Mariachi Monumental de México. Future panels will explore topics including marketing and publicity, songwriting, health and wellness, general career-building advice, and law and accounting practices.
