An Associated Press report published in Thursday’s (8/20) Chicago Tribune states, “The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor Bernard Haitink plan a 9-concert tour of five European cities next month. CSO spokesmen said Wednesday the European tour will begin Sept 11 in Berlin. Concerts are planned in Lucerne on Sept 13 and 14, followed by performances Sept. 16 and 18 in Vienna, and Sept. 20 and 21 in Paris. The tour concludes with concerts in London on Sept. 23 and 24. The concerts will feature Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 (‘Jupiter’), Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15, Haydn’s Symphony No. 101 (‘Clock’), Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, and Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7. Since 1971, the CSO has made 35 international tours: 26 to Europe, six to the Far East, and one apiece to Russia, Australia and South America.”
