The Music Institute of Chicago will honor violin and viola instructors Roland and Almita Vamos with a special concert at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall on September 1 at 3 p.m. Performing at the “Vamos Celebration”—co-presented with the Illinois-based Western Springs School of Talent Education—will be more than a hundred former students who are soloists and members of various ensembles. Among the performers are Rachel Barton Pine; the Pacifica Quartet; members of the Ying Quartet; Pasadena Symphony Concertmaster Aimee Kreston; Seattle Symphony Principal Second Violin Elisa Barton; and New York Philharmonic Associate Principal Second Violin Lisa Kim. Long-time faculty members at the Music Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University and Chautauqua Summer Music Institute, Roland and Almita Vamos have previously been recognized as Distinguished Teachers by the National Endowment of Arts, and honored by the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) with the Distinguished Service Award in the past.
