In Tuesday’s (6/7) Cincinnati Enquirer, Janelle Gelfand writes, “The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra concert on Sunday afternoon had three unexpected surprises. The first was the improved sound of the orchestra in Corbett Theater at the new School for Creative and Performing Arts, where the concert was held. The second was the fine impression made by guest conductor Roberto Paternostro in his U.S. debut, leading a program of Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms. The third was the news that the Erich Kunzel Center for Arts and Education at SCPA will be the new home of the Chamber Orchestra. For decades, the orchestra has called Memorial Hall in [the historic neighborhood of] Over-the-Rhine, its home. But in recent years, it has experimented with other venues that have been acoustically friendlier, or which have provided the equipment needed for mounting the semi-staged opera and theatrical productions that music director Mischa Santora has programmed. Next year’s season will take place entirely at SCPA, in both the Mayerson Theater and the larger Corbett Theater. … The decision to move down the street just made sense, said board chair Eric Allen, noting the comfortable seats, air conditioning, sound-proofing and other amenities of the new theater.”
